Our Story

When you’re a kid growing up on the flat plains of the Midwest, and the highest object on the horizon is a water tank, mountains seem a little surreal. T.V. shows like Bonanza, with its backdrop of Ponderosa Pines and mountains (instead of cornfields, housing tracts, and water tanks) did not seem real-just smoke and mirrors-nothing could be that beautiful.

One of my favorite things about moving to Idyllwild this year is Highway 74. It’s beautiful , but in a surreal way, to travel from the Alpine scenes of Idyllwild to the palms of El Paseo in 45 minutes. And yes, you do drive past the Garner Cattle Company where Bonanza was filmed.

I can almost hear the theme music when I drive by...
