Our StoryMoving to Idyllwild this year has had a profound impact on my artwork. It is a sea change in the way moving to Malibu from New York was in 1996. After that 1996 move to Malibu I began painting the landscape, and stopped painting the figure because the color and landscape were so mind alteringly beautiful. Inspirational.
The vistas, trees and mountains in Idyllwild are an inspiration, but I can’t stop looking at the clouds. Often I am above the clouds in my studio. Have you ever seen the sunset underneath the clouds? The sky here is filled with turbulent Turneresque clouds-unlike that cloudless cobalt blue expanse at the beach.
The sky is simply bigger and more exciting in Idyllwild.
